Oct. 1 2009: Local Matters gets an "Organic Takeover"
October 02, 2009 08:18 AM PDT
Local Matters experienced an “Organic Takeover” Thursday, October 1st, when local organic farmer, beekeeper, farmer’s market vendor, author and longtime Sarasota resident Peter Burkard returned to Local Matters. Peter was joined in the WSLR studio by a quartet of “Organic Takeover” chefs currently traveling the state by bicycle and promoting the benefits of organics, nutrition and exercise — stopping along the way to prepare free organic meals and food samples in low income areas across the state. Sponsored locally by Global Organics, “Organic Takeover” Sarasota appearance schedule included scheduled stops at the Tallevast Community Center on Thursday, Oct. 1; a Friday, Oct. 2 stop at the Easter Seals on Braden Ave. serving Easter Seals volunteers and volunteers and families from Children First. The final Takeover stop is Saturday morning, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Newtown Open Air Market in Fredd Atkins Park (2581 Washington Court).
Hosted by Joe Hendricks and Steve Norris, Local Matters airs live every Thursday evening, from 6 to 7 pm on WSLR 96.5 FM, Sarasota’s listener supported community radio station.
