On Thursday, November 5, Jetson Grimes and Che Barnett stopped by the WSLR studio to discuss the efforts being made by the Greater Newtown Community Redevelopment Corporation to help improve the economic and business climates in Newtown.
Che and Jetson talked about the efforts to bring affordable housing to Sarasota's historic black community, the YouthBuild program, The Nexus Project, the West Coast Minority Contractors Association, the MLK Celebration Committee of Sarasota and the Newtown Open Air Market.

As a longtime businessman in the Newtown Community, Jetson will also offer his perspective on a variety of economic social and cultural issues facing Newtown residents, with insight garnered from his many years as the proprietor of the Newtown hair salon "Jetson's Creative Trends."
As is the case in many African-American communities, Jetson's hair salon serves as a local gathering place where community matters are often discussed in an informal, neighborhood setting.
